The Anzac Centenary Reflections Competition is a short film, photography and writing competition run specifically for South Australians during the Anzac Centenary.
The Anzac Centenary (2014-2018) is Australia’s most important time of national commemoration and reflection. This period marks 100 years since our involvement in the First World War. The Anzac Centenary aims to honour the sacrifice and service of all who have served from the original ANZACS on the shores of Gallipoli, up to the service men and women currently serving at home and abroad.
This period recognises the generations of Australian men and women who have defended our values and freedoms in wars, conflicts and peace operations throughout a Century of Service.
The Anzac Centenary Reflections Competition invites photographers, videographers, writers and poets to contribute during this time of national reflection.
Official First World War historian C.E.W. Bean once wrote that the Spirit of ANZAC “stood, and still stands, for reckless valour in a good cause, for enterprise, resourcefulness, fidelity, comradeship and endurance that will never own defeat.”
The ANZAC themes are known as: compassion, courage, duty, integrity, mateship, resilience, teamwork and toughness.
The Anzac Centenary Reflections Competitions is looking for entries that reflect some or all of these themes in a creative, engaging and impacting way through the medium of film, photography, short story and poetry.
The creative entries should underpin an overall theme of commemoration, reflection and honour, paying tribute to those who have made the ultimate sacrifice.
This competition also provides entrants an opportunity to have their work featured on the Anzac Centenary website and to be included in the state’s time capsule project as part of the states commemoration of the Anzac Centenary.
A $500 voucher will be awarded for each category. The writing category will have two $250 prizes awarded for creative writing and poetry respectively.
One major prize of a trip for two to the Australian War Memorial in Canberra will be awarded to an overall winner from any category judged to be the highest merit and best explores issues and themes related to the ANZAC Centenary.
